The Weaver’s Apprentice crafts her wares in beautiful Lunenburg County, Nova Scotia.
Karen Mackenzie was (and is) an apprentice of Marrie Berkelaar, a fine heritage handweaver and owner of Double Whale Handwoven Designs in nearby Lunenburg.
Karen’s designs are simple, clean, and strong enough to stand the test of time. Her commitment to an ethical and independent way of creating means each piece is thoughtful, one-of-a-kind, and made using materials sourced as locally as possible.
When not weaving, gardening, or chasing children and poultry, she can also be found teaching yoga or leading outdoor education programs.
Where do we source our raw materials?
Our three main suppliers are Briggs & Little (New Brunswick), MacAusland’s (Prince Edward Island), and Maurice Brassard (Quebec). We also use fibre from smaller Nova Scotia producers.
What do we weave on?
A variety of looms manufactured by Leclerc (Quebec).
Who designed our awesome logo?
Karine at Art Kestrel Design and Illustration.
